Look Ian, if it weren’t for such “utterly pointless cars”, the transportation you are riding around in today wouldn’t exist nor be as safe in an accident.

What, he’s talkimg about Formula 1? Perhaps he should take a look at McLaren’s Applied Technologies division, specially their health technology arm...

What an asshat. Does he complain about houses as well?

Ian seems to have an undeservedly high opinion of himself and his views. I believe we call that sanctimonious douchebag syndrome

Let’s approach this in terms of the very basics of his argument. He has fallaciously assumed that his utility in a very limited set of circumstances is the only utility that exists. Cars of nearly any kind have utility higher than a low end sedan in circumstances other than he imagines - everything from a Smart car for parking to a Transit for hauling. Performance vehicles have huge utility in putting on a show, rat rods have utility in making their owners giggle. The sum of utility varies, in short. But it doesn’t stop there; it is also fallacious to assume that something needs to have utility in the first place. This is what’s known as a begged question - the question that he assumes answered is “Do vehicles need to be useful to be created - yes”. Uh, no. Burden of proving that has not yet been met. Do that part first, foo. You can’t? Oh. Oh, I see.

The two really obvious flaws are a begged question and buckets of solipsism.

Ian probably uses iPod ear buds because of their worth “in terms of utility”.

What kind of vehicle is he complaining about?

Can we just call it SaDS for short?

A Ferrari, a McLaren and a Porsche. Plus a certain man with a hammer.
